You haz Winpwn you may haz problems

You can try to unlock your iPhone 2.0 with Winpwn, but beware there are problems out there. Number one is if your phone has already been activated, and you don’t UNCHECK the “Activate Phone” box then your phone will have absolutely no service. You will have no bars no matter what service you use.

The second problem lies in your computer. There have been even more reports of Winpwn not being able to compile the custom firmware due to lack of resources on your PC. Well I can tell you that I used a dual core PC with 2 gig of ram and still had issues. After searching the net…. the main answer was try a different computer. Well that didn’t sit well with me. So if you don’t have a different computer here is what to do.

Downgrade Your iPhone To 1.1.4

During the downgrade process in iTunes you will get an error 1015

Download iBrickr from our Downloads section. Plug in the iPhone, run iBrickr and choose “Reboot Phone”. If your iPhone turns green, then disconnect phone and repeat the entire process. ( Everytime I have done this for a friend it has taken two restore attempts to get a Red screen on the iPhone. Once it turns red… Let it run. Ibrickr will say “attempting to fix”. Once you see your phone has rebooted and displays the USB cord/CD then go to the next step.

Download ZiPhone from our Downloads section and unzip it to your desktop.

Open the ZiPhone folder and double click ZiPhoneGUI.exe.

Plug in your iPhone and click “Do It All” on ZiPhone

ZiPhone will do it’s thing and you will have an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone

I recently answered a question over at PhoneScoop.Com and I think it deserves its own post.

Did you know that you have the same 14 day remorse policy on upgrading your contract that you do when you activate new service? Well you do! All you need to do is call customer care and inform them you want to cancel the upgrade and have them back date your contract to reflect your remorse. Now if you got a phone with your upgrade they will want you to return it since you received a discount on your equipment.

Best Deal + Free Activation?

Most of the “Deals Of The Week” have come from Best Buy as of late. They are actually ramping up to launch their new mobile device center. The best part is there are NO MAIL IN REBATES. All of Best Buy’s discounts are INSTANT! Now for the free activation….. well kind of… They are launching their new mobile center on July 25th. Check with your local store, most are offering free activation on any carrier from July 25th – July 27th. I know for a fact the Oklahoma City (Crossroads Mall) location is doing this.

Get out of your contract Sprint/T-Mobile Style

Ok folks….over the years I have read many posts from users asking how to get out of their current wireless contracts. Well for Sprint and T-Mobile it’s pretty easy. If you want to port your number you MUST complete the port process then call customer care. I can’t stress that your port must be 100% complete before you do anything if you want to keep your number!

Ok.. So now that you have either ported you number or you want a different number anyway, call customer care and tell them you want to cancel your account (or just pick the automated option to get you there).

When they ask you why you want to cancel simply say, “I have moved outside your home coverage area and I am roaming all the time”. Now some reps will try and talk you into keeping your service because your phone is technically still usable there. Just inform them that because you are “roaming” your voicemail, text message, and all other digital features will severely be affected. This is why you have decided to go with a local cellular provider.

This is where it changes for both carriers:

Sprint: The rep will ask you where you moved to. I moved to Woodward, Oklahoma when I did this. They will verify that your new local has no digital coverage and they will waive any termination fee. Now before you get off the phone, verify with the rep that because you moved outside the coverage there will be no term fee. If they give you any grief about porting first, just tell them that by law you own that number and they have to release it. Let them know that you porting your number has nothing to do with their policy about early term fee credits.

T-Mobile: T-mobile is kind of a pain in the arse. With T-Mobile, let the rep know you are moving outside the “digital” coverage area. (I moved to Liberal, Kansas this time.) Also let them know (if you ported your number), that who you ported it to covers that area. Now the TMO rep will ask you the address, they will verify the lack of coverage, and then they will give you an 1800 number to fax in some kind of bill. It can be a wireless bill, utility bill, etc… After you fax it in, call back 24 hours later and have a rep check your account to see if the fax has been received and the term fee has been credited. It took about 3-4 faxes before my account was credited.

Enjoy!
